Feeling frustrated with my typically tight, precise style, I wasn’t liking my work or enjoying the process anymore. It seemed counter-intuitive to want to change my natural tendencies and I didn’t think it was even possible. Luckily I was in the middle of Heidi Parkes’ year-long quiltmaking class and she really helped me. She said it would be valuable to try and loosen up and suggested I practice small and fast and in a series. I got my timer out and cranked out a whole bunch of 1 hour start-to-finish quilts. It was a very awkward experience but helpful. I still lean towards my tight tendencies and I need to remember to practice this lesson again and again. Good thing it doesn’t take very long.
(Found cotton fabric scraps with cotton batting. Hand quilted with cotton Perle embroidery floss, free-motion embroidered and framed.)
