When I was in art school, a teacher assigned us to copy 10 of our favorite paintings. Not to plagiarize but to help us walk through what another artist may see and feel during their creation process. It was a valuable lesson and I replicated the assignment with these tiny quilts.
I absolutely love the free-spirited, witty work of Zak Foster and I wanted to understand how he creates such intentional beauty with what also looks like random ease. I copied a few of his tiny quilts, trying very hard to mimic his style and decisions. I was very deliberate in my fabric choices and let the shapes happen with ease. I have no intention of selling or showing these, I just wanted to share a good learning experience. And thanks Zak for your beautiful work!
(Found cotton fabric, silk scarf, cotton batting. Hand quilted with cotton Perle embroidery floss.)
